Sports Results from the Weekend

The Saint Louis Cardinals wrapped up their road trip to Milwaukee yesterday as they finished their series with the Brewers. The Brewers jumped out to an early lead, but the 4th and 5th innings proved to be crucial moments for the Cardinals, who bounced back with multiple runs to win the game 8-2. After splitting the series with the Brewers, the Cards return home to play the Cleveland Indians later tonight. Cards network pre-game on AM 1230 WJBC begins at 6:20.

The Cubs lost to the Cincinnati Reds yesterday 8-6. While the Cubs lead the ballgame 5-1 in the fifth inning, The Reds scored seven runs during the seventh inning, including a pinch-hit three-run homer from Jesse Winker. The Cubs now travel to the west coast to take on the LA Dodgers tonight.

On the south side, the White Sox won their game against the Oakland Athletics 10-3, splitting the series. The Sox have the day off as they prepare to host the Minnesota Twins Tuesday night.

In Frontier League action, the Normal CornBelters defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 10-8. It was a historic weekend for the Belters, as Chris Iriart set a new Frontier League record by hitting four straight home runs. On Saturday, Santiago Chirino set the all-time hit record. The Belters have today off. They’ll host the River City Rascals at the Corn Crib tomorrow night. Game time is 7:05.

In soccer’s World Cup, England beat Panama 6-1, Japan and Senegal tied 2-2, and Colombia defeated Poland 3-0. In today’s games, Uruguay takes on Russia, Saudi Arabia will play Egypt, Spain takes on Morocco, and IR Iran is scheduled to play Portugal.
