In softball, Pontiac’s Regan Krause pitched five innings on no-hit ball as the Indians settle for a team one-hitter in a 10-0 six-inning win over Lincoln.

Dwight routed Iroquois West 22-1 for the Trojans’ 20th win. Dwight scored 12 times in the third inning. Abby Edwards had four hits, including two homeruns and drove in seven.

Fieldcrest shutout Dee-Mack, 10-0. El Paso-Gridley lost at Tremont, 8-2.

 

In baseball, Dee-Mack topped Fieldcrest, 9-2.

 

El Paso-Gridley won the girls Class 1A Lewistown Sectional crown. EPG got individual wins by Sophi Allen in the 3200 and Faith Graham in the 100 hurdles. The Titans will send representatives in eight events to the state finals in Charleston next weekend.

 

Ridgeview won four events to take the title at the Class 1A Paxton-Buckley-Loda Sectional. The Mustangs will have seven entrants at state. Mya Tinsley won the 100 and 200-meter dashes, was part of relays that came in first and second.  Dwight’s Julie Ramsey took second in the 100-meters to advance to state.

 

The Chicago Cubs and White Sox resume their Crosstown Classic this weekend as they meet for three on the North Side this weekend. The Cubs have won three in a row while the Sox have lost five straight.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals opened a road trip with a 2-1 win at San Diego. Tommy Pham homered and scored both Cardinals’ runs in his return from injury.

 

The Normal CornBelters are set to open their ninth season tonight as they host the Traverse City Beach Bums. The Belters have pushed back the first pitch this season to 7:05 p.m., and Sundays at 6:05.

 

Illinois State got a 10th inning homerun from Riley Strandgard to survive and advance in the Missouri Valley Conference softball tournament with a 4-3 win over Northern Iowa. ISU will play No. 3 seed Southern Illinois in the quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. The semifinals are Friday night.
