Illinois State women’s basketball let a close game get away in the fourth quarter as they suffered their sixth straight loss, 67-45 at Wichita State. The Redbirds committed 22 turnovers
and shot just 3-of-15 from the three-point line after connecting a program-high 12 three-pointers two days earlier. Brechelle Beachum led the Redbirds with 19 points.
The Bloomington Thunder salvaged a point in a 3-2 home loss to the Youngstown Phantoms after a 10-round overtime shootout. The Thunder lost their first shootout since November 2015.
The match-up for Super Bowl LI is the Atlanta Falcons againt the New England Patriots. The Falcons blew out the Green Bay Packers 44-21 as Matt Ryan threw for 392 yards with four touchdowns and ran for another. The Patriots clobbered the Pittsburgh Steelers 36-17 behind 384 yards passing from Tom Brady with three touchdowns. The big game is Sunday, February 5 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
The Blackhawks beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 as Corey Crawford recorded his 200th career win in goal.
The top seeds at the Australian Open are out. Andy Murray lost to 50th ranked Mischa Zverev and defending champion Angelique Kerber lost in straight sets to 35th-ranked CoCo Vandeweghe.
Hudson Swafford earned his first PGA victory with a one-stroke win at the CareerBuilder Challenge at La Quinta Country Club in California.
