The Pontiac Fire Department was called to a suspected anhydrous ammonia leak at Caterpillar Monday evening.

Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon said the call came in around 8 p.m. and confirmed the leak upon arrival. Runyon said they believe a temperature controller on the 1,000 gallon tank’s heater malfunctioned causing the tank and its contents to heat up, which made the anhydrous ammonia to bleed off.

No injuries were reported and the Saunemin Fire Department assisted at the scene and Fairbury manned Pontiac’s station.
